Tom Day Candidate for North West
About Tom Tom is a well known Gascoyne identity who has been involved in every facet of the local community.
Together, with his wife Margaret, he has owned and managed various businesses including fuel distribution, mail contracting, livestock transport, general freight and earthmoving.
Tom is a long time member of the Carnarvon horticulture industry, and was the founder of the 'Sweeter Banana' Co-operative,, an organisation that revolutionised the industry with its patenting and promotion of the 'Lunch Box Banana'. He is currently Chairman of the Sweeter Banana Co-Op (40 grower members) and the WA/NT Director of the Australian Banana Growers' Council.
He has served on a number of Government and local committees, including 16 as a Shire Councillor and six years as President. Tom was made a Freeman of the Shire in 1996.
Tom has been Chairman of Carnarvon Race Club (nine years) and Chairman of Warriors Football Club (four years). He also chaired the WA National Parks and Nature Conservation Authority from 1992-2000.
Tom's track record shows that he is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in, particularly when it comes to getting a better deal for the North West.
He has identified the issues of primary health care, land release and afforadable housing, and road infrastructure as priorities for his electorate as well as initiatives to attract and retain doctors, health and essential workers.
Tom believes The Nationals Royalities for Regions policy is the key to achieving better outcomes for regional Western Australians.
About the new electorate of North West The new North West comprises the existing district of North West Coastal (Shires of Carnarvon, Exmouth, Roebourne and Shark Bay) with the addition eastward of the complete local government authorities of the Shires of Cue, Meekatharra, Mt. Magnet, Murchinson, Upper Gascoyne and Yalgoo.
It also comprises part of the local government areas of the Shire of Northampton and Shire of Ashburton.
