The Nationals candidate for the Federal electorate of O’Connor Tony Crook
has welcomed the discovery of a new gold province about 750 km north-east
of Kalgoorlie-Boulder as a success story for Royalties for Regions.
Beadell Resources, who announced the find earlier this week, has been
exploring the area with funding assistance from the State Government’s
Exploration Incentive Scheme – a key component of the Royalties for Regions
program.
Mr Crook said the find in WA’s West Musgrave region highlights the importance
of the Exploration Incentive Scheme in assisting new minerals and energy
discoveries and promoting the long-term sustainability of the State’s resources
sector.
“This is great news for the region and is evidence that Royalties for Regions is
delivering strategic outcomes for regional development in the State,” Mr Crook
said.
The $80 million Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS) is designed to increase
private sector resource exploration through a range of programs, including
funding to support innovative drilling in greenfield areas.
“The EIS is a great strategic use of Royalties for Regions funding, delivering real
results for WA’s economy and potentially creating employment opportunities in
the region,” Mr Crook said.
“This discovery helps to increase knowledge of the State’s geology and
resources deposits, enabling us to plan for the future and ensure we have
enough geo-scientific information to make WA an attractive destination for
exploration investment.
“The Kalgoorlie Branch of The Nationals played an integral part in getting this
policy on the Party’s election platform and I’m pleased to see it now paying
dividends.”
The five-year EIS is divided into six sub-programs including Exploration and
Environmental Coordination, Innovative Drilling, Geophysical and
Geochemical Surveys, 3D Geological Mapping, Promoting Strategic Research
with Industry and Sustainable Working Relations with Indigenous Communities.
