Waldron confirms opposition to Carbon Tax

Local Nationals Member for Wagin Terry Waldron has confirmed his opposition to a Carbon Tax.

I feel strongly that there should not be a Carbon Tax imposed, as I don’t see it will achieve outcomes the Federal Labor Government talks about,” Mr Waldron said.
“It will have a huge negative effect on our agricultural industry and general business at a time when our farmers and local businesses cannot and should not have to shoulder extra cost burdens and I note some unions are concerned at possible job losses.
“I am also sceptical about the Federal Governments compensation package that goes with the tax, as in the end someone has to pay,” he said.
Mr Waldron said that while he did not doubt there was climate change, he was not convinced the proposed carbon tax would have any real direct effect.
“I have listened to many arguments and opinions of scientists with an open mind, however there seems to be so much disagreement amongst the scientists themselves,” Mr Waldron said.
“I have also spoken directly with many constituents and people across our industries and professions right across country WA and I am convinced there is not the support for a Carbon tax and therefore I cannot support such a tax.” He said.
Mr Waldron added like everyone across our region he was anxious for significant opening rain and follow up rains.
“Whilst I am anxious I am quietly confident we will have a reasonable season which is critical for our region and the state in general,” Mr Waldron said.
