The Ravensthorpe Community Child Care Group opened for the business of play last week, marking a milestone in the centre’s establishment. The Cub House is now able to provide day care services to families in the Ravensthorpe area.
“A great deal of work by many people and organisations has come to fruition in this most necessary asset for the wider Ravensthorpe community,” said the Hon. Wendy Duncan MLC, Member for Mining and Pastoral.
“Without suitable, safe child care many opportunities for employment and leisure are unavailable to parents, and the committee and its supporters deserve recognition for this achievement.”
The project began in 2006, enduring through some challenging times for the people of Ravensthorpe.
“From its inception this project grew from and for the community and is a reminder of the power and capacity of rural West Australians working with Government to build stronger regional towns,” Ms Duncan said.
Committee member, Robin Edens, acknowledged the assistance given by a number of organisations, including the Shire of Ravensthorpe and the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission.
“The Shire and the GEDC have provided finance but, just as importantly, they helped us plan the process and follow it through. We also received a lot of help from local business people.”
The centre offers long day care places for children aged 0 – 6 years each weekday between 6:45am and 5:45pm.
“From this time on, it’s about creating strong communities of the future by caring for and teaching children through play,” said Ms Duncan.
