The State Government has selected Serco Australia Pty Ltd as the preferred tender respondent for court security and custodial services in Western Australia.
The current court security and custodial services contract expires on July 30, 2011 and new arrangements are required to be in place to ensure ongoing service provision.
Corrective Services Minister Terry Redman said the Government tendered for services that are delivered to the departments of Corrective Services and the Attorney General, and WA Police.
“The new contract will be for an initial term of five years, with two options to extend to a maximum of 10 years,” Mr Redman said.
“These arrangements will deliver an improved quality of service with a focus on duty of care and the delivery of all services in a safe, humane and decent manner.”
The new arrangements will provide for improved training requirements for staff and improved contract performance measures to assess performance against service requirements and obligations.
The Department of Corrective Services and Serco will now negotiate the contract and, if successful, Serco will take over service delivery on July 31, 2011.
G4S is the current holder of the contract. The Department of Corrective Services, G4S and Serco will work together to ensure a smooth transfer to the new contract.
The selection of Serco as the preferred respondent is the culmination of more than two years of extensive work on the new service delivery model.
