Nationals Member for the South West Region Hon. Colin Holt has welcomed the State Governments recent submission to Infrastructure Australia, with a strong focus on investment on transport in WA.

“Regional WA is responsible for generating jobs and growth which will help the economic recovery of the country, we have called on Infrastructure Australia to recognise this fact and support these important projects, none more important than expanding the capacity of the Brunswick rail” sad Mr Holt.

“This project will alleviate an existing bull-neck between Brunswick Junction and Bunbury. This will improve the accessibility and operation of the port allowing greater export volumes, which means fewer trucks on roads and more jobs,” said Mr Holt.

The State Government sees a cooperative approach between State and Federal Government in unison with private enterprise as the conduit required to bring about needed improvements rail accessibility and capacity in the South West.

“This is a $60 million plus project, which will benefit the region and service the regions needs as demand on the port and rail continues to grow” said Mr Holt.

The Infrastructure Council of Australia is currently reviewing all submissions, but Mr Holt was confident the Infrastructure Australia Council will agree this project will stimulate the South West and enhance the regions social and economic benefits beyond the short term.
