Minister opens Morawa business units, Grylls

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls has opened eight new light industrial units in Morawa which were developed at a cost of $1.36million, assisted with $841,000 from the State Government’s Royalties for Regions.

Mr Grylls said the Morawa Business Units program was developed to capture the business and development opportunities in the region’s expanding resources sector.

“The Business Units project was a clear priority for the Shire of Morawa to capture the increasing growth and prosperity in the region,” he said.

“Four of the eight units have already been leased and the town is seeing the benefits from new jobs and training opportunities as well as growth in the business sector.”

The Minister said the Mid-West was experiencing rare growth and prosperity and it was important that communities like Morawa took initiatives when opportunities presented.

“Mid-West growth is another reason why the Liberal-National Government announced the $220million Mid West Investment Plan in this week’s State Budget,” he said.

The Mid West Investment Plan is funded by Royalties for Regions over four years (2011-12 to 2014-15) to implement major infrastructure projects and initiatives in the Mid-West region, enabling a more sustainable social and economic base to be achieved for the region.

“A total of $40million is allocated in 2011-12 to start projects across the Mid-West identified through local government, community, stakeholder groups and the Mid West Development Commission and the Department of Regional Development and Lands,” Mr Grylls said.

“The program includes key infrastructure and housing initiatives, town enhancement revitalisation and community development.”
