The Hon Wendy Duncan Member for Mining & Pastoral has today congratulated three organisations in the Kimberley region who have been successful in obtaining funding through Eventscorp for regional events.

The Kimberley region will benefit from funding under Eventscorp’s Regional Events Scheme (RES).
The RES original funding was doubled to a total of $600 000, with the additional $300 000 allocated from the Royalties for Regions fund.
“Events throughout regional Western Australia play a major role in bringing communities together. They stimulate and create community involvement, and provide a boost for local tourism,” said Ms Duncan.
“As a result of the extra funding, Eventscorp will be able to support 39 events in regional areas in 2011-12, including 20 that are receiving support for the first time,” Ms Duncan said.
Three Kimberley events have received funding in the first round of grants including:-

·        The Lake Argyle Adventure Race, which is the first time the multi-discipline sporting event has received funding under RES.

·        The Cable Beach Triathlon which will be held on August 21 has also received funding for the first time.

·        Broome’s Ballet Under the Stars will also be held on 15 October for the first time since 2005 thanks to the roll-out of funding.

Ms Duncan said that 21 more events would receive funding this financial year compared to last year, contributing towards making stronger communities, and adding to the focus of Royalties for Regions, which is to make the regions better places for people to live work and invest.
