Colin Holt Member for the South West region has welcomed the recent budget announcement which has seen the Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival receive funding under the Regional Events Scheme.
Through the support of Royalties for Regions the allocation to the Regional Events Scheme has doubled to $600,000. The Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival was one of 39 events to be supported and received $16,000 in support.
Mr Holt said the funding would provide a boost for local tourism thanks to the doubling of the RES funding to $600,000.
“The Regional Events Scheme was designed to support a wide range of events in country areas to attract visitors, particularly outside traditional peak holiday periods,” Mr Holt said.
“These events contribute to the State’s diverse tourism and community events calendar and will help to raise the profile of the region through media coverage.”
“The Cherry Harmony Festival is a great local event which attracts many visitors to Manjimup and helps to boost the local economy. It is pleasing to see the State Government recognising this fact and supporting the event financially,” said Mr Holt.
“As a result of the extra funding, Eventscorp will be able to support 39 events in regional areas in 2011-12, including 20 that are receiving support for the first time,” Mr Holt said.
Mr Holt said 21 more events would receive funding this financial year compared to last year.
Other events to receive funding in the region were:
$20,000 Nannup Music Festival – March 2-5, 2012
$15,000 Boyup Brook Country Music Festival – February 15-19, 2012
$35,000 Quit Forest Rally – April 1, 2012
