Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman has congratulated Wheatbelt high achiever Caroline Robinson, the winner of the Australian Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation 2011 Rural Women’s Awards.

The award recognises the significant contribution made by women to rural businesses and regional communities across Australia.

Ms Robinson and her husband run a wheat and sheep property at Woolocutty, in the eastern Wheatbelt.

“Caroline is a rural development consultant specialising in community development, strategic engagement and project management,” Mr Redman said.

“She was behind the establishment of the Wheatbelt Business Network, which promotes local produce, regional tourism and provides opportunities for entrepreneurship, networking, training and advancement of rural women in business.”

Her ambition is to further develop the network as a conduit for investment in the region and she plans to research and develop a buy local marketing campaign for the Wheatbelt.

Ms Robinson was selected as the Western Australian winner of the Rural Women’s Awards in February from a group of outstanding achievers from across the State.

“Her achievements and this national recognition will hopefully inspire other rural and regional women from across WA, who are important contributors to their communities, to be involved in this awards’ opportunity in coming years,” the Minister said.

Mr Redman also acknowledged the outstanding contribution of 2010 national winner Sue Middleton, from Wongan Hills, in helping to raise the profile of agriculture and the role of women in regional WA
