Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies today welcomed investment in Mid West boating facilities, funded by Royalties for Regions.

Ms Davies said the $8.93 million Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme helped to make regional WA a better place to live, work and invest.

“The Mid West is set to benefit with key projects in Port Denison, Geraldton and the Abrolhos Islands receiving funding,” Ms Davies said.

“Boating is part of our way of life in regional WA, particularly in Geraldton and the Mid West, and this funding recognises the growing popularity of this pursuit.

“This funding contributes to improving boat ramps and jetties, upgrading parking and amenities at harbours, providing better navigation aids and facilities.”

Projects funded under this round of theRecreational Boating Facilities Scheme include:

·         $242,625 for the installation of public moorings at the Abrolhos Islands
·         $132,116 for the construction of a floating jetty at the Batavia Coast Marina in Geraldton
·         $35,500 for a feasibility study for expansion of boat ramp facilities at Port Denison.

The Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme funding quadrupled this year following the allocation of $20 million from Royalties for Regions over the next four years.

An additional $5 million will be made available each year over the four funding rounds to help meet increased demand for boating facilities in regional Western Australia.

Eligible authorities can also apply for planning grants which result in detailed plans, cost estimates, approvals or similar for recreational boating facilities.

Since its introduction the scheme has contributed to 282 projects throughout WA.
