Waldron applauds Town Centre Funding announcement

Local Member for Wagin Terry Waldron MLA, has applauded the announcement that seven shires within the Wagin electorate will receive funding from the new Great Southern Town Centre Enhancement Program (GSTCEP).

They will be sharing with other town across the great Southern who will soon be able to present a new face to the world with the assistance of a $1 million of Royalties for Regions funding.

"The funding was designed to enhance town centres with better landscaoing, roads, paths, gardens, lighting and signs," Mr Waldron said.

The program, which is unique to the Great Southern, is a Royalties for Regions initiative through the Great Southern Development Commission (GSDC) and offers up to 50 per cent of design costs up to a maximum of $30,000 and/or up to 50 per cent of the cost of on-site works up to a maximum of $150,000.

Mr Waldron said GSTCEP was an exciting new opportunity for local government to complement exisiting projects that are helping to build communities in the region.

"The Shire of Jerramungup will be assisted to implement a range of beautification works in Jerramungup, including the installation of an entry statement, a new community park, and further landscaping" Mr Waldron said.

"The Shire of Kojonup will be helped to implement stage 1 of its Main Street Redevelopment Project which will see the commerical precinct linked to the tourism precinct via a new footpath and improvements to the Apex Park verge car park.

"The shires of Broomehills-Tambellup, Woodanilling and Gnowangerup have had general enhancement plans supported and the Shore of Kent will commence the upgrade of Sanderson Street Nyabing" he said.

"This is a very good example of State Government working in partnrship with local government to bring fruition their town centre reviltalistation plans to make them even more attractive and safer places to live, visit and invest," Mr Waldron said.
