Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman has congratulated recipients of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Food and Beverage Industry Awards.

WAMMCO, the West Australian Meat Marketing Cooperative, clinched the ‘Best From The West’ award for 2011.

The lamb processor was awarded the top prize for a refit of their Katanning processing plant which has improved efficiency and subsequently returns to their producer members. WAMMCO was eligible for the overall prize after winning the Innovation category.

“Our food industry makes a vital contribution to the economy and households of Western Australia, directly employing 19,500 people and allowing consumers to access a wide variety of fresh, locally-grown produce,” Mr Redman said.

“These awards highlight our diverse and innovative State food and beverage sector. It is vital that their vision and growth is recognised and supported.”

The Minister also acknowledged the great work of the Food Industry Association of Western Australia, a not-for-profit industry body dedicated to a sustainable local food and beverage industry, for organising the awards which are critical in driving innovation and excellence in WA’s food sector.

Other key recipients included: Best Service to Industry Award - Jaymak Perth; Best Food Product or Achievement Award - Sticky Fingers Gourmet Foods; Best Retail Product Award - Il Gelato; Excellence in Supply Chain Award - Catalano’s Seafood Secrets; Best Marketing Award - Mrs Mac’s; and Environment and Sustainability Award - Perth Market Authority.
