Goldfields-Esperance to receive upgrades under State Black Spot Program, Duncan

Member for Mining & Pastoral Region, the Hon Wendy Duncan has today welcomed the announcement that upgrades and safety improvements will be carried out at 154 locations on the Western Australian road network under the latest round of funding of the State Black Spot Program.
 
Black Spot Programs directly target improvements to the safety of roads with proven crash history or high-risk locations.
 
Ms Duncan said that she was pleased to see that a total of 80 projects would be carried out in regional Western Australia, where statistically the yearly road fatalities were much higher than the metro area.
 
Ms Duncan said that the Goldfields-Esperance Region would see road improvements totaling $749,333 and would include:-
·        Upgrade Intersection to accommodate 36.5m vehicles; upgrade signs, lines and drainage; Great Eastern Hwy/Lady Loch Rd, Coolgardie.
·        Reseal, apply skid resistance, remove hazards and provide pavement marking; Quandong Rd, Coolgardie.
·        Reconstruct superelevation on curve, remove roadside hazards and install advisory signs; Burra Rock Rd, Coolgardie.
·        Install Roundabouts at:- Brookman St/Porter St, Kalgoorlie Boulder and Lane St/Egan St, Kalgoorlie Boulder.
·        Install median islands to reinforce priority and upgrade street lighting; Lane St/Vivian St, Kalgoorlie Boulder.
·        Install median island to reinforce priority; Brookman St/Piesse St, Kalgoorlie Boulder.
·        Install Roundabout; Andrew St/Windich St, Esperance.
·        Install 8m radii kerb, reduce width of and modify entrance to William Street, Esperance.
·        Reduce crest, seal road and install signs; Norsemen/Hyden Rd/Mort Rd, Dundas.
·        Install median islands to reinforce priority; Roberts St/Lane St, Kalgoorlie Boulder.
·        Install footpath extension with pram crossing, improve existing pram crossings and upgrade signs and pavement markings; Stubbing St/William St, Esperance.
·        Realign and widen curve, clear vegetation to improve sightlines, form new table drains and upgrade signs and guideposts; Norseman-Hyden Rd, Dundas.
·        Improve sight lines an widen road; Evaston Rd/Menzies Rd, Menzies.
 
“This funding is all about making roads in Western Australia less hazardous,” said Ms Duncan.
“The State Black Spot Program makes a significant contribution to maintaining the State’s roads,
and in doing so reduces road trauma, vehicle damage and makes our roads safer places to be.”
