Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies has welcomed the announcement of the latest round of successful projects under the Regional Airports Development Scheme (RADS).
Ms Davies said Geraldton Airport was one of 29 regional airports across the State to receive funding for improvements.
“The Geraldton Airport will receive funding to provide design specifications and plans for the construction of a new parallel,” Ms Davies said.
“This is important to ensure the airport can continue to support the community and industry in Geraldton.
“Royalties for Regions has provided the Regional Airport Development Scheme with a significant boost, enabling a wider scope of projects.”
RADS will provide $8.4 million for this round of projects, including $6.4 million from Royalties for Regions and $2 million from the Department of Transport.
“Our regional airports provide a vital link for those living in isolated areas,” Ms Davies said.
“The Regional Airports Development Scheme helps communities to improve the quality of aviation infrastructure and enhance economic growth in Western Australia.”
Last year, more than 30 regional airport projects received funding for infrastructure upgrades and maintenance programs to provide improved access for communities, safer emergency evacuations and greater tourism opportunities.
Ms Davies said regional areas in Western Australia are ideally suited to the further development of the aviation industry and this scheme can help communities to realise this potential.
