Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies has welcomed the completion of the 300th house under the Royalties for Regions funded Government Regional Officer Housing (GROH) Program.

Ms Davies said the program, which will see 400 properties built to house key workers, was delivering much-needed accommodation to regional areas.

“Housing is an essential part of attracting and retaining workers in regional communities,” Ms Davies said.

“This program is providing housing for vital workers such as police, teachers and health workers in some of the hardest to staff areas, including towns in the Wheatbelt.

“This was a key commitment for The Nationals at the last State Election, and we’re delivering.”

New houses are being built across the Agricultural Region, including in Jurien Bay, Mullewa, Katanning, Lake Grace, Boddington, Bruce Rock, Narrogin, Corrigin and York.

More than 45 units have been completed in the Wheatbelt so far, and 32 properties in the Great Southern.

Royalties for Regions has allocated $200 million for the 400 new GROH program houses.

“These houses are a great example of the tangible benefits Royalties for Regions is delivering to country people.

“The program has additional benefits, including increasing employment in the local building and construction industry across regional WA.”

The new properties will house workers from Government agencies including the departments of Child Protection, Corrective Services; Education and Training; and Environment and Conservation, WA Police and the Water Corporation.

The program is on target to complete the 400 new homes by December 2011.
