Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls has announced the appointment of councillor Nicole Lockwood from Karratha as the new chairperson of the Pilbara Development Commission board.
Her responsibilities include overseeing the commission’s participation in the delivery of the State Government’s program to develop world-class cities at Karratha and Port Hedland.
Cr Lockwood, a member of the commission since 2009, is president of the Shire of Roebourne. She is also a member of the Federal Government’s Infrastructure Australia Council and the WA Planning Commission.
A lawyer and mother of two children, Cr Lockwood has previously worked with the Pilbara Community Legal Service, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and lawyers Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
Mr Grylls said Cr Lockwood’s extensive experience, networks and knowledge would enable her to provide valuable corporate and strategic direction to the board.
“I am delighted she has accepted the position of chair, particularly during this time of great opportunity and challenge for the Pilbara region,” he said.
The Minister also praised the contribution of Mr Andre Bush as acting chair for the past six months. Formerly the CEO of the Port Hedland Port Authority, Mr Bush has relocated to Perth as a consultant in the marine sector.
“It is pleasing that Andre has agreed to remain as the board deputy chair. He has broad experience in national and international projects,” he said.
Mr Grylls also announced the appointments of Cr Kelly Howlett, mayor of the Town of Port Hedland; and Cr Lynne Craigie, president of the Shire of East Pilbara, to the board.
