Milestone to provide major boost for Force and Glory, Waldron

Western Force and Perth Glory will benefit from a State Government decision to include corporate facilities as part of stage one of nib Stadium’s development.

Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the decision to increase the scope of the project to include corporate amenities was made in response to the needs of the current and future tenants of nib Stadium.

“The State Government has focused on ensuring nib’s redevelopment works for all current and potential stakeholders,” Mr Waldron said.

“It became clear during the project definition phase that providing corporate facilities into stage one of the redevelopment was of key importance to the viability of the rectangular codes.”

“As a result the Government has increased the budget of stage one to $95.1million to allow an expansion of the scope of works.”

The expansion means the Eastern Stand will now include 56 open corporate boxes seating 420, a 250-person BBQ terrace, LED signage and a second video screen.

The Minister said the expansion would directly benefit the viability of the two existing franchises and also be a major boost for any moves to develop an NRL team into Western Australia.

“The initial proposed scope of works, while benefitting spectators and members attending nib, provided minimal revenue-generating opportunities for the sports,” he said.

“This decision highlights the value of effective stakeholder consultation in informing project definition.

“This ensures that when you go to tender, you are in the best position to deliver infrastructure that benefits the public, the sporting codes and other key stakeholders.”
