On a recent visit to the Goolarri Media premises in Broome, the Hon Wendy Duncan, Member for Mining and Pastoral Region, saw first-hand a project that had been funded through the Royalties for Regions program.
The project, which was allocated $165,000 through the Kimberley Regional Grants Scheme under the Royalties for Regions program will enable digital broadcast of the Goolarri TV television channel.
The funding enabled the purchase and installation of equipment necessary to allow digital terrestrial TV transmission and was subject to a digital broadcast licence being approved by the Australian Media and Communications Authority.
The roll out of digital television across Australia is currently taking place, and is estimated to be finalised by 2013.
Ms Duncan said that the people at Goolarri develop and produce the majority of their television material, which is broadcast on a narrowcast band that reaches around the town of Broome.
“The Royalties for Regions funding will allow for GTV to continue its broadcasting of an incredible selection of short local programs reflecting the Kimberley as well as bush cooking, sports, music, fishing tips and historical insights reflecting the region,” said Ms Duncan.
