Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies has encouraged owners of heritage properties in the Agricultural Region to apply for State Government grants to help conserve Western Australia’s heritage.

Ms Davies said $1 million is available for grants to help conserve state-registered heritage properties.

“The Wheatbelt, Mid West and Great Southern have such a rich history, and it’s great to see this recognised with the heritage grants,” Ms Davies said.

“Individual owners of heritage properties can apply for grants of up to $100,000 through the Heritage Council of WA’s Heritage Grants Program.

“These grants help communities to appreciate the unique history of their town and their region.”

The fund aims to assist with the conservation and revitalisation of heritage properties and owners are required to match funds for the projects.

Ms Davies said a range of projects in the Agricultural Region received funding under last year’s scheme, including the York Post Office and the Merredin Railway Housing Precinct.

“The Heritage Grants Program is the State Government’s way of helping private owners of places that are recognised for their importance to our heritage.

“Private owners throughout WA are encouraged to apply for the grants.”

This is the 15th year the Heritage Grants program has provided funds to assist property owners to develop plans and undertake conservation work during the course of the scheme.

Applications are now open and close at 4.00pm, 30 September 2011.
