Community groups across the State will be able to further support their vital work addressing local natural assets with a further $3million funding for natural resource management (NRM).
Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman said the Liberal-National Government’s second round of funding was for community groups at the coalface.
“The work of these groups is leading to improvements in and greater protection of our State’s assets,” Mr Redman said.
“By providing funding, the Government is strongly supporting the groups to improve and protect the natural assets within their areas.”
The Minister said the first round of NRM funding, announced in June, had provided $2.37million for 73 new community projects.
Successful projects in this round included a $50,000 grant to the West Koojan Gillingarra Land Conservation District Committee (LCDC) to ensure the long-term effectiveness of salt reclamation adjacent to the Moore River, Gillingarra; and a $50,000 grant to Ord Land and Water to control rubber vine on a 100ha site in the Lake Argyle area.
There was also a $14,000 grant to the Frenchman Bay Association to build a bird hide for observation and board walk at Lake Vancouver, Albany and $11,000 to the Coolup LCDC for a fox and rabbit control project for the coastal areas of the Peel-Harvey catchment.
Applicants can apply for between $10,000 and $50,000 in the third round of NRM funding and applications must be submitted by Friday, September 9, 2011.
“I invite community groups, local governments and education institutions to apply for these funds to protect land, water and marine assets, as well as biodiversity conservation and biosecurity,” the Minister said.
