The environment will be a beneficiary of the State Government’s announcement that $3 million in funds will be available to community groups involved in Natural Resource Management, says Mining and Pastoral MLC Wendy Duncan.

Ms Duncan welcomed the announcement by Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman, who said that the work of natural resource management groups was leading to improvements in and greater protection of WA’s natural assets.
Ms Duncan said that the Liberal-National Government’s second round of NRM funding would provide support for groups working hard to improve and protect the region’s natural assets.
The first round of NRM funding, announced in June, provided $237 million for 73 new community projects, including a $50,000 grant to Ord Land and Water to control rubber vine on a 100ha site in the Lake Argyle area.
Previous grants have also included $50,000 awarded to the Esperance Regional Forum to help with riparian vegetation protection and livestock exclusion fencing in the Stokes Inlet and Coomalbidgup catchments, and $11,100 to the Ravensthorpe Agricultural Initiative Network for work to improve the health, water quality and community awareness of Dunn’s Swamp at Hopetoun.
Ms Duncan urged community groups involved in natural resource management to apply for funding to help them with their important work.
“I agree with Minister Redman when he says that these community groups are at the coalface.
“Without them a great deal of the terrific work being done to preserve our State’s precious natural resources would not be happening, and this funding will provide them with the ability to continue their good work.”
Applicants can apply for between $10,000 and $50,000, and applications must be submitted by Friday, September 9, 2011.

Further information about the funding is available from the State NRM office on 9368 3168.
