Nationals WA Federal Member for O’Connor Tony Crook MP will lobby on behalf of the Bridgetown community to deliver ABC Radio National to the town.
While ABC Local Radio is available in Bridgetown, residents are unable to tune in to Radio National.
Mr Crook said Bridgetown residents had raised the issue with his office.
“I am happy to lobby for this cause. It is obviously important to many Bridgetown residents, and I recognise this.
“It’s a very fair ask by the people of Bridgetown, when you consider that ABC Radio National is available within 50 kilometres of town - in Manjimup and Nannup.”
Mr Crook has organised for a petition to be established for local residents to sign.
“I hope to see as many residents as possible put their name down.
“Strong community support for this will send a clear signal to the ABC that establishing Radio National in Bridgetown must be a priority.”
Mr Crook acknowledged that Bridgetown was one of the largest townships in his electorate not to receive ABC Radio National.
“I hope that by working with the people of Bridgetown we can secure a better outcome.”
Mr Crook has been a strong supporter of ABC Radio, and commended the service they delivered in Parliament earlier this year.
The petition to deliver ABC Radio National to Bridgetown can be signed at the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Visitor Centre and the Balingup Visitor Centre.
Additional copies of the petition are available online at www.tonycrook.com.au.
Bridgetown residents with access to the internet can listen to ABC Radio National live online at www.abc.net.au/rn and those with satellite television can listen to ABC Radio National through their television.
