Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies today launched the new Hidden Treasures Great Southern Bloom Festival program to promote the attractions of the Great Southern at a ceremony in Kings Park.
Contestants Daniela and Stefania from Seven Network’s My Kitchen Rules cooking show, Shaun Fewson the local star of TV show Farmer Wants a Wife and a host of others from the Great Southern joined Ms Davies at the launch to promote Bloom Festival.
Ms Davies said the Hidden Treasures project aims to draw attention to the Great Southern region as a tourist destination, in particular the area covered by the Shires of Broomehill-Tambellup, Cranbrook, Gnowangerup, Jerramungup, Katanning, Kent, Kojonup and Woodanilling.
“The Great Southern Bloom Festival aims to create a region-wide program that will add value to the wildflower shows and associated exhibitions already held throughout the Great Southern in spring each year, and introduce complementary tourism products in these communities,” Ms Davies said.
“It was great to see the partnerships Hidden Treasures have developed, which will help to raise the profile of the Hidden Treasures region across the metropolitan market.
“Hopefully this event will encourage people to take a trip, visit the region to enjoy the Festival program and embrace the country charm.”
Ms Davies said the Great Southern has a range of attractions, from wildlife and wildflowers to a rich cultural heritage and real country hospitality, the festival program builds on these attractions and gives people a reason to visit.
Royalties for Regions, through the Great Southern Development Commission, has contributed to supporting the Hidden Treasures project.
Ms Davies congratulated Di Holly, Chairperson of the Hidden Treasures of the Great Southern, the Hidden Treasures Committee, the Shires and local communities, the Great Southern Development Commission and Festival Coordinator Karen Birdseye for their work in putting together the festival.
