Latest round of Royalties for Regions funding to provide improved infrastructure and services for WA’s regional communities, Grylls

Communities in regional Western Australia will soon benefit from projects that have been successful in receiving funding in the third round of the State Government’s Royalties for Regions’ Regional Grants Scheme (RGS).

 
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said the $7.98million allocated in the latest round of the RGS would provide communities in regional areas with improved economic and community infrastructure and services.
“The primary objective of the scheme is to develop infrastructure and services to regional areas through funding projects that will assist in attracting investment and increasing employment opportunities,” Mr Grylls said.
The Minister said funds in the RGS were focused on community, public and private organisations to assist regional communities to prosper.
“Local decision making is vital for regional communities to identify the projects that will help improve the quality of life in each region,” he said.
“The Royalties for Regions funding allocations will provide new opportunities for local communities and help to plan for a sustainable economic and social future.”
 
WA’s nine regional development commissions administer the scheme, including assessing applications and determining grants.
 
Some of the successful projects across the nine regions include:
 
·       Gascoyne - eight projects receiving $777,333, including the Gascoyne Food Plan Initiative; Carnarvon Race Club Revitalisation; and the Carnarvon PCYC Multi Purpose Facility
·       Goldfields-Esperance - 15 projects receiving $744,919, including the Ngaanyatjarra Media Accommodation Project; Esperance Senior High School Girls Academy Program; and Goldfields Women’s Health Care Premise Improvement Project
·       Great Southern - 16 projects receiving $957,000, including the Borden Pavilion South Western Sporting Precinct; Tambellup Independent Living Seniors Accommodation; and the Plantagenet Mitchell House Community Art Centre Refurbishment
·       Kimberley - 11 projects receiving $890 579, including the Broome Volunteer Sea Rescue Group storage shed and operational headquarters; and Royal Flying Doctor Service Skin Cancer Screening
·       Mid-West - 23 projects receiving $818,404, including the Cue Town Hall Upgrade; Yamaji Art supporting the Mullewa Indigenous Women’s Group and the Artists of Morawa project; and refit and refurbishment of Boomerang Hostel
·       Peel - nine projects receiving $902,000, including developing Hamel Business and Community Centre; Waratah Youth and Community Facility; and facilities development for K9 Dog Rescue Group
·       Pilbara - 15 projects receiving $950,001 including the Martu School Holiday Program; Tom Price Speedway and BMX Racing Complex Upgrade; and Meentheena Veterans’ Retreat
·       South-West - 17 projects receiving $988,913, including Eaton Oval Upgrade and Renovation; Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse Preservation and Redevelopment; and Weld Theatre Upgrade in Busselton
·       Wheatbelt - 14 projects receiving $952,188, including Roe Tourism Strategy Implementation; Toodyay Footbridge Refurbishment; and Narrogin Regional Cultural Centre and Town Hall Upgrade.
 
Mr Grylls said that the RGS highlighted one of the central themes of Royalties for Regions.
 
“Royalties for Regions is about putting money back into communities for projects and services that are determined and driven by the regional communities themselves,” he said.
