Young girls will have the chance to follow their dreams with the announcement of funding for the Esperance Senior High School, Girls Academy program.

Member for Mining and Pastoral Hon Wendy Duncan MLC welcomed the announcement being made in Esperance today. Funding of $69,597 from The State Government’s Royalties for Regions, Regional Grants Scheme would contribute to the total project cost of $344,000.
Ms Duncan said The Girls Academy Program- A Pathway to Future Success would be a vehicle through which identified at-risk students would be supported to develop the social, emotional, physical and vocational skills they needed to become successful, confident, and productive members of society.
“Following the announcement of Royalties for Regions funding for the Clontarf Boys Academy in last year’s budget, I noted that we needed similar support for girls, particularly Aboriginal girls,” Ms Duncan said.
She said that the principal of Esperance Senior High School heard the message and set about developing a program to augment the excellent work they were doing with young people, to prepare them for fulfilling and productive lives.
“I thank the people who have worked hard to bring this program to Esperance. I welcome the commitment and enthusiasm of Esperance Senior High School principal Cathy Bamblett her staff, and members of the community,” she said.
The 2010-2011 round of the Regional Grants Scheme has funded 15 projects totalling $744,919 in the Goldfields-Esperance region.
