Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies attended the launch of a new solar desalinator at Avery Acres near Dowerin on Sunday.

Ms Davies said the technology was developed by an Australian business and had the capability to provide quality water from unusable saline water sources.

“This is an exciting project which highlights the exceptional resources we have in our State, both in terms of brain power and innovation, and in renewable energy sources such as an abundance of sunlight,” Ms Davies said.

“Renewable energy and innovative projects such as this one help to create jobs and investment in regional communities, which makes our country towns a better places to live, work and invest.

“New technology such as the solar desalination equipment presents opportunities to help to secure water supply across the state.

“By utilizing solar power, this project produces quality potable water without the need to tap into other power sources – which is often impossible in remote locations.”

Ms Davies attended the launch by Hon Alison Xamon MLC, which was hosted by Mr Adrian Price, Dowerin’s Natural Resource Management Officer.

The State Government released a study assessing opportunities for desalinating saline or brackish groundwater reserves in the Wheatbelt earlier this month.
