The State Government has confirmed its intention to introduce new land tenure options as part of the Rangelands Reform Program in a response paper released by the Department of Regional Development and Lands.
The paper responds to feedback received from the Rangelands Tenure Options Discussion Paper released in April 2011.
Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the discussion paper received 73 feedback submissions from all major stakeholder groups in the rangelands, with more than half coming from the State’s pastoralists.
“The proposed land tenure options, including a rangelands lease, perpetual pastoral lease and a new diversification permit provision, are based on stakeholder feedback, legal advice in relation to native title and State land policy considerations,” Mr Grylls said.
“Native title is an important consideration in introducing these new land tenure options and we will assist in facilitating native title negotiations.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development and Lands, Wendy Duncan MLC, said a Bill to amend the Land Administration Act 1997 will now be developed and rangelands stakeholders will have the opportunity to comment.
“The Minister understands the importance of these proposals to rangelands stakeholders and welcomes their feedback,” she said.
The State Government’s Royalties for Regions initiative is investing $2.25million over three years to undertake the Rangelands Reform Program.
