A renowned Australian rock band and the State’s premier ballet company will both perform in Karratha this weekend as part of events funded by the State Government.
Tourism Minister Kim Hames said Thirsty Merc would headline the Karratha Community Celebration on Sunday October 2.
“The festival will also feature market stalls, street performers, face painters, children's entertainment, a master barbecue chef competition and giant roving insects from Earth’s garden,” Dr Hames said.
In a separate event, West Australian Ballet will perform One Starry Night, under the stars at a specially built amphitheatre at the Karratha Country Club on Friday September 30. The performance is part of the ballet company’s annual regional tour.
The State Government is supporting both events through Eventscorp’s Regional Events Scheme, which this year received a funding boost from Royalties for Regions.
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said Royalties for Regions funding of $40million over four years had provided a significant boost to the Regional Events Scheme and showed the State Government’s commitment to regional events and communities.
“Karratha will come alive this weekend with the exciting performances by Thirsty Merc and West Australian Ballet. It is events like these that make a town an exciting and vibrant place to visit, as well as a great place to live,” Mr Grylls said
“Royalties for Regions funding ensures regional West Australians have the opportunity to enjoy some of Australia’s best live acts outside of the metropolitan area.”
Both Ministers thanked North West MLA Vince Catania for his ongoing support of community events
