The Great Southern region will showcase an impressive range of art and craft exhibits, as part of its annual celebration.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the Bendigo Bank Southern Art and Craft Trail, now in its ninth year, featured exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, printmaking, photography, pottery, glass and jewellery.

“About 74 exhibits from more than 300 artists and craft practitioners will be on display across the region in venues such as galleries, studios, wineries, community halls, retail outlets and restaurants,” Dr Hames said.

“The event is expected to attract about 9,000 visitors to admire the work of these talented individuals.”

The State Government has provided funding for the Bendigo Bank Southern Art and Craft Trail through Eventscorp’s Regional Events Scheme, which is partly funded by Royalties for Regions.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said the funding for the program was part of a significant $40million over a four-year commitment to regional events from the Royalties for Regions Fund.

“Providing Royalties for Regions funding for regional events like this is a great way to showcase WA’s exceptional regional towns as a great place to visit and an inviting community to in which to live,” Mr Grylls said.

“This event in particular is a valuable opportunity to promote local products and services, which is key in encouraging regional development.”
