Culture and the Arts Minister John Day today said regional audiences would be able to share the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra experience with their city counterparts through a live simulcast performance tonight.

“First Berlin, now Vienna - the State Government is giving regional Western Australian audiences access to world-renowned performances,“ Mr Day said.

Royalties for Regions has provided $250,000 in 2011-12 for the event, part of $1.25million of funding for the Royalties for Regions’ Performing Arts Regional Tours Boost Program.  In addition, the Perth Theatre Trust has contributed $150,000 to bring the orchestra to WA.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said Royalties for Regions would ensure that regional audiences would again enjoy a world-class performance.

“People in regional communities will have the opportunity to enjoy the concert, free-of-charge at events hosted at 20 of the State’s community resource centres or at one of 12 larger regional venues hosting the performance,” Mr Grylls said.

“Westlink subscribers with access to satellite decoding equipment will also be able to enjoy the concert from the privacy of their own home.”

Larger events hosting the simulcast will be held in the following 12 major regional centres:  Albany Entertainment Centre; Goldfields Arts Centre - Kalgoorlie-Boulder; Esperance Civic Centre; Cummins Theatre - Merredin; Queens Park Theatre - Geraldton; Broome Outdoor Movie Theatre; Camel Lane Theatre - Carnarvon; Novotel Ningaloo Resort - Exmouth;
Moora Performing Arts Centre; New Lyric Theatre - Bunbury; Margaret River Cultural Centre; and Matt Dann Cultural Centre - Port Hedland.
