Margaret River’s unique biodiversity will be celebrated this weekend with the first ever Flourish Margaret River festival.

The State Government is supporting Flourish Margaret River through Eventscorp’s Regional Events Scheme, which is part funded by Royalties for Regions.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the festival coincided with the region’s magnificent wildflower season and boasted a jam-packed three-day program.

“The festival includes an expo, wildflower photography workshops, bush cooking classes, a biodiversity symposium and many other activities for people of all ages,” Dr Hames said.

“Regional events are important as they provide significant economic, social and cultural benefits to the community, as well as increase the region’s profile through media exposure.”

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said Royalties for Regions funding of $40million over four years had provided a significant boost to the Regional Events Scheme and showed the State Government’s commitment to regional events and communities.

“The inaugural Flourish Margaret River festival provides an excellent opportunity for the South-West community to embrace biodiversity and sustainability for the future benefit of the State,” Mr Grylls said.

“Royalties for Regions recognises regional events help to build the profile of communities, boosting their prosperity by attracting new customers for local businesses, which is a key component in encouraging regional development.”
