Up to $6.5million in State Government funding is available to eligible authorities for improvements to public recreational boating facilities in Western Australia.
Calling today for applications for Round 17 of the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme (RBFS), Transport Minister Troy Buswell said there was unprecedented funding available to meet growing demand for recreational boating infrastructure.
“Recreational boating facility managers can apply for up to 75 per cent of the cost of a project, with the maximum grant available set at $2.25million for projects in regional areas and $750,000 in the metropolitan area,” Mr Buswell said.
"These generous limits allow major projects to be undertaken with assistance from the RBFS.”
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said there had been a significant boost in RBFS funding following a $20million injection from Royalties for Regions.
“The Royalties for Regions funding is being shared over four rounds of the RBFS, and had already seen a record $8.9million in funding allocated to Round 16 projects announced earlier this year,” Mr Grylls said.
“These funds will help meet the growing demand for new recreational boating facilities and assist with improving existing infrastructure in regional areas.”
Grants can be used to build or upgrade boat launching ramps, jetties, moorings, channels and breakwaters directly related to a public recreational boating facility. Land-based facilities including trailer parking areas, toilets, fish cleaning tables and boating signage are also eligible projects. Grants can also be used for the planning of these projects.
The RBFS, administered by the Department of Transport (DoT), has allocated more than $20million to 282 projects since its inception in 1998. Boat owners make a direct contribution to the RBFS, as it is partly-funded from boat registration fees.
