Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman last night presented the 2011 44th Premier’s Gold Plate Award to Dear Friends Restaurant in Caversham at a gala ceremony in Perth.
The Premier’s Award is presented to the entry with the highest overall score, with points awarded on a range of criteria from customer service to ambience.
Dear Friends was also the Premier’s Gold Plate winner in 2008.
Mr Redman paid tribute to the particularly high standard of this year’s entries.
“The judges tell me the competition was very tight this year, with just a few points separating entries,” he said.
“The Gold Plate Awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creative and innovative work of the catering industry and its use of quality local ingredients.”
The Minister said both consumers and restaurateurs were becoming increasingly interested in using seasonal, locally grown, fished or processed food products.
“The State’s Buy West Eat Best initiative is an easy way for chefs and consumers to identify and source Western Australian ingredients,” he said.
“There are now more than 100 Buy West Eat Best partners, from those in the catering industry right through to farmers, who are working more closely together to promote and provide consumers with quality local food and dining experiences.”
