Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls today announced that State Cabinet had endorsed Ian Fletcher as chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC).
The council consists of representatives from the nine Regional Development Commissions, two local government nominees and one Ministerial nominee.
“The council as the peak advisory body for regional development plays a critical role in setting strategic directions, policy prioritisation and strategies common to all Regional Development Commissions across the State,” Mr Grylls said.
Mr Fletcher has more than 40 years experience in the private sector; local, State and Federal government; and was, until his recent retirement, vice-president of External Affairs in Western Australia for BHP Billiton.
“With his wide experience in both the public and private sectors, Mr Fletcher is highly suited to guide the council in its implementation of Royalties for Regions programs,” the Minister said.
Mr Grylls said the three-year appointment would also allow the implementation of transition arrangements as part of the Government’s response to the recent review of RDCs.
The Minister also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing chairperson, Graham Thomson.
“Graham has provided an outstanding contribution to the regional development agenda in Western Australia, particularly in his membership of the RDC review committee,” he said
