Masterplan outlines future of Cockburn Coast, Grylls

Cockburn Coast’s redevelopment reached another milestone today as plans were released showing how the area will leave its industrial past behind for an urban future.

Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the formerly industrial-zoned land would be transformed into a thriving residential and commercial community.

“The regeneration of the area will create a new community of up to 10,000 people with an exciting mix of commercial, residential and recreational activities,” Mr Grylls said.

“This project is moving forward with the masterplan and Town Planning Scheme Amendment now released for public comment by the City of Cockburn.

“The 140ha urban renewal project, located five kilometres south of Fremantle, will link South Beach to the Port Coogee estate, and involve the renewal of the derelict South Fremantle Power Station and the former Robb Jetty industrial areas.”

Planning Minister John Day said the Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment to rezone the project area from industrial to urban was recently approved following an extended period of consultation and stakeholder engagement.

“The release of the masterplan for public comment and the approval of the Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment is a significant step forward,” Mr Day said.

“Cockburn Coast has been developed in line with the State Government’s Directions 2031 which addresses Perth’s population growth through lively and well connected neighbourhoods.

“It will create new residential, commercial, recreation, entertainment and tourism opportunities for the region; a comprehensive network of cycle and pedestrian paths to connect the development to the coast; parks and recreational areas.”
