The Wyndham Early Learning Activity Centre (WELA) has taken out the regional award for Outstanding Children and Family Services or Project from the Department for Communities for the second year running.

In offering her congratulations to the organisation, the Hon Wendy Duncan MLC, Member for Mining and Pastoral Region, said that this recognition was so very well deserved for the small committee of people making an extremely big difference to families in regional Western Australia.

Ms Duncan said that WELA have put together a unique multicultural family Centre for parents/primary care givers to come with their children. They offer activities to help form the foundations of learning whilst providing social interaction and cultural inclusivity, all which assist in preparing the children for school.

WELA also run a multitude of programs each week to assist and cater for the wider Wyndham community including a breakfast club, stronger women’s program, workshops for dads and even a nana’s craft morning.

“I would like to extend my thanks to the dedicated committee of WELA who have been making such a difference to the lives of pre-school children and their families in Wyndham.” said Ms Duncan.

“It is through efforts such as these that we see stronger, happier more resilient communities in our regional areas.”

The awards were presented on Universal Children’s Day and were a great way to celebrate individuals and organisations who contribute so much towards children, their families
and the community.
