Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies has urged people in the Agricultural Region to celebrate Seniors Week and recognise the important role seniors play in their community.
Ms Davies said seniors make a significant contribution to regional communities.
“Seniors are central to families, community structures and recreational activities in regional towns, and this often goes unnoticed,” Ms Davies said.
“Seniors are among the most active volunteers, providing essential environmental, social and community services.
“It’s great to see events this week dedicated to celebrating our seniors.”
Ms Davies congratulated the winners of the 2011 Seniors Award Winners, in particular Jan Trenorden, winner of the 2011 Intergenerational Award.
“Jan has played a vital role in attracting resources and programs for children and young people to the Wyalkatchem district and is very deserving of this honour.”
