Hikers in the Goldfields will have further to travel as a result of State Government funding aimed at enabling completion of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Karlkurla Bushland Trails, according to Mining and Pastoral MLC, Wendy Duncan.

Announcing $1 million funding destined to upgrade walk trails around the State, Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said that $57,500 had been allocated to the Goldfields trail.
The funding would allow the city to finish the final stage of a network of sealed trails which were used extensively by the community for recreational walking.
Ms Duncan said that the funding was a result of the appreciation by the government of the value of trails, which encouraged communities to walk.
“Walking is an exercise which not only improves the health and wellbeing of individuals, but of the communities to which those individuals belong,” Ms Duncan said.
“Trails which are pleasant to use encourage walking, increasing the number of people enjoying the health benefits,” she said.
Ms Duncan said not only do the trails directly benefit the community which encompasses them, but the virtues of walking and enjoying natural surrounds were not lost on tourists and visitors to Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
“The presence of a network of walking and cycling trails adds to a town’s assets, and are a boost to tourism,” she said.
