Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies has encouraged Country Age Pension Fuel Card holders to be wary of surcharges at selected petrol stations.
Ms Davies said fuel card holders should be selective in their choice of petrol station after some users reported a surcharge on fuel card purchases at certain outlets.
“Some fuel card holders have reported extra charges at particular fuel stations, which is excessive and unnecessary,” Ms Davies said.
“I would encourage fuel card users to shop around and stay away from those petrol stations that impose additional charges to get the most out of their fuel card.”
The Royalties for Regions Country Age Pension Fuel Card provides eligible age pensioners with up to $500 a year towards the cost of fuel and taxi travel.
“This is a fantastic scheme that is already helping more than 43,000 country pensioners to remain mobile and engaged with their community.
“Country pensioners have limited access to public transport and rely on their own vehicle to attend appointments, go shopping and visit family and friends.
“The Nationals developed the Fuel Card to help address the challenges seniors in regional areas face in accessing transport.”
To be eligible for a Country Age Pension Fuel Card, you must be receiving a Centrelink Age Pension, Carer Payment, Disability Support Pension, Wife Pension or Widow B Pension or a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Service Pension, Social Security Age Pension or Income Support Supplement.
