A mileston was marked today in the history of the Esperance Primary School when Member for Mining and Pastoral, Wendy Duncan MLC, joined Education Minister Liz Constable to ‘turn the first sod’ in recognition of a new era for the school.

Under the 2011-2012 State Budget, $10 million Royalties for Regions funding was provided for a new school to replace the 55 year-old-school buildings and create new recreation spaces for the more than 500 students, and teachers, at the school.
Ms Duncan said it was a great day for Esperance Primary School and she was glad to have been a part of this special day.
“I would like to acknowledge the significant amount of work done by Esperance Primary School principal Lisa Helenius and her support staff and parents to achieve this significant milestone for the school.
“This upgrade is long overdue and the decision, under the new school plan, to relocate the administration block away from a busy main street would remove some of the challenges for people managing the school,” Ms Duncan said.
“With Esperance having been selected as a SuperTown it is important that the town provides its community with attractive, functional and modern facilities as the town moves to an exciting phase in its life.”
The school upgrade includes:
·        12 classrooms with air-cooling
·        an early childhood block with a kindergarten classroom
·        two pre-primary classrooms and two general classrooms
·        a covered area with a canteen and stores
·        oval and cricket nets
·        hard-courts
·        parking
·        an administration block with dental therapy
