To celebrate the start of Disability Awareness week, Member for Mining and Pastoral Wendy Duncan MLC will host a DisabiliTea Morning Tea on Monday 28 to raise awareness of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Ms Duncan said the morning tea would highlight the NDIS and the Every Australian Counts campaign for the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme.
“The NDIS will revolutionise the way people with a disability, their families and carers are supported in this country,” she said.
“Currently there is no clear coverage if disability enters the lives of people and their families. The consequences put very real financial and emotional pressure on these people.
“The NDIS has received support right across government. My colleague Federal Member for O’Connor Tony Crook has also hosted a Kalgoorlie DisabiliTea and I urge all of us on a local level to add support to this vital scheme,” Ms Duncan said.
She said the State Government had also helped to raise the profile of people living with disability via the State Government’s Accessible Community grant money which saw both the Shires of Esperance and Dundas receive money for better services.
The Shire of Esperance received $11,615 to buy accessible gym equipment for the leisure centre. The equipment is in use and includes the Upper Body Ergometer and the Dual Action Pulley system.
The Shire of Dundas received $8651 and will build a ramp and handrails at the Norseman Post office.
More than $530,000 was delivered to 41 local governments and organisations.
The morning tea is on Monday 28 November at 10am in the Esperance Civic Centre Reception Room. Entry gold coin donation to the Esperance Fundraising Group. RSVP: 9071 1500.
