Industrial land development in the Pilbara is gearing up with works to create new light industrial and transport lots at the Wedgefield Industrial Estate near Port Hedland.
Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said civil works commenced earlier this month to create 37 lots in a new part of the Wedgefield Industrial Estate known as Hedland Junction.
“Fresh landscaping and road treatments, combined with new design guidelines promoting an elevated standard of built-form, are helping bring about a new style of industrial development to the Pilbara,” Mr Grylls said.
The Minister said Hedland Junction was shaping up as the preferred light industrial and transport estate for businesses seeking to expand or establish themselves in the Pilbara.
“We can meet the needs of heavy haulage companies’ requirements with wider roads and dual-use access to enable better traffic flow throughout the estate,” he said.
Works now under way at Hedland Junction include:
-
civil works to create 21 lots in the light industrial area and 16 lots in the transport and related-use area
-
works in the light industrial area cover nearly six hectares and more than 27ha in the transport area.
Mr Grylls said the 280ha Hedland Junction was part of LandCorp’s plans to support business capacity in the region in line with the State Government’s Pilbara Cities initiative.
“Georgiou Group has been contracted to undertake the works which started this month and are expected to be completed by May 2012,” he said.
LandCorp has introduced an indigenous participation plan for the works contract, enabling four participants to complete training supported by the Pilbara Institute and the Bloodwood Tree Association.
Lots are still available in both the light industrial and transport use areas ranging from 2,307sqm to 2.5ha
