Twenty-six regional events across Western Australia have received a funding boost, thanks to an extraordinary, one-off round of Eventscorp’s Regional Events Scheme (RES), funded by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the RES would provide $3million over four years to a wide range of sporting, arts and cultural events that attracted visitors, added vibrancy to a region and increased its profile through media exposure.

“The regular 2011-12 RES round supported 39 events, and thanks to this extraordinary round, an additional 26 events to be held in the 2012 calendar year will also receive funding,” Dr Hames said.

“The one-off round will support a variety of events ranging from a wildflower festival, antique fair and a food and wine festival, to music concerts, a marathon and an indigenous festival.”

The $300,000 extraordinary round of the RES is part of a $40million over four year commitment to regional events from the Royalties for Regions Fund.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said that from the $40million, $1.8million had been allocated to Eventscorp’s RES, demonstrating the State Government’s commitment to regional events and communities.

“The Government recognises the value of regional events and the positive contribution they make to regional communities in making them vibrant, more exciting places in which to live,” Mr Grylls said.

“We are pleased that with funding from Royalties for Regions, the RES will be able to support a further 26 events providing more regional communities with the opportunity to celebrate their uniqueness through events.”

Applications for the regular RES round will open in December 2011 and close February 2012 for events that fall between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013.
