The Nationals call for candidates for 2013 State Election

The Nationals WA State President, Colin Holt today announced the start of the
pre-selection process for the 2013 State election, saying the Party was looking for candidates prepared to stand up for regional WA and champion Royalties for Regions.
“We are looking for people who are passionate about regional communities, who believe in the potential of regional WA, and want to join the team that is giving regional WA a voice,” Mr Holt said.
“The Nationals gained the balance of power in 2008 and have delivered Royalties for Regions to return a fair share of funding to regional communities.
“Royalties for Regions has invested more than one billion dollars in infrastructure and services across the State, including the Country Aged Pension Fuel Card, the Ord-East Kimberley expansion, a boost to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, housing in the Pilbara, accommodation for students, and funding for rural health services.
“Royalties for Regions is transforming regional communities and we want local champions to join our team and keep the momentum going.”
Mr Holt said The Nationals are hoping to build on current representation and secure the balance of power again in both houses of State Parliament so they could continue putting regional WA on the Government agenda.
“Before 2008, both major parties focused on metropolitan areas and overlooked the needs of regional communities.
“With our team holding the balance of power that focus has started to shift, but I challenge you all to consider if this interest would continue without The Nationals?
“We’re calling on local champions to join The Nationals team and ensure regional WA maintains a strong voice.”
Mr Holt said Royalties for Regions is delivering more than a billion dollars back to regional WA through valuable community projects.
“There are a billion reasons to support The Nationals and a billion reasons to join the team and get involved.”
Nominations open today for all Legislative Assembly electorates and Legislative Council regions.
Nominations close on 5 April 2012.
