Workers with disabilities have settled in to Activ Industries’ new $1.4 million production facilities in Albany, officially opened today by Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls and South West MLC Colin Holt.

Royalties for Regions funding of $95,000 through the Great Southern Regional Grants Scheme supported the $190,000 fit-out of the new premises in Minna Street, Albany, where Activ makes commercial timber products and processes textiles.

A plaque was unveiled to mark the occasion and Minister Grylls and Mr Holt joined the Activ workers for morning tea.

Mr Holt said the facility set a new standard for enterprises employing workers with disabilities.

“Activ runs a proudly commercial operation that also performs a wonderful community service,” Mr Holt said.

“Products from this facility have solid standing in the market, demonstrating the skill and dedication of the staff.

“People employed here have the opportunity to undertake productive and meaningful work and to learn new skills.

“Key aims of the Royalties for Regions program include increasing employment opportunities and improving local services and this development does both in a sustainable way,” Mr Holt said.

Major commercial activities at Activ include property care, and the production of pallets and bins using export-certified pine timber.

Activ Industries’ 50 workers with disabilities in Albany also produce outdoor furniture, process textiles and supply specialised packaging services.
