Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies is urging event organisers to apply for funding under the State Government’s Eventcorp’s Regional Events Scheme.
Jointly funded by Royalties for Regions, the scheme will provide up to $50,000 for small and developing events to be held between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013.
“Regional events are not only a highlight for the communities in which they are held, but they also provide an important injection into the local economy,” Ms Davies said.
Ms Davies said the benefit of local events could often be seen long after the festivities were over.
“Tourism is becoming an increasingly important part of the State’s regional economies and special events help raise the appeal of our towns and promote the attractions of the greater region,” Ms Davies.
Since July 2011, the State Government has committed support to 64 regional events across WA through Eventcorp’s Regional Events Scheme, thanks to a funding boost from Royalties for Regions.
“It is great to see that through Eventcorp, Royalties for Regions is able to help establish a wider range of smaller, developing events,” Ms Davies said.
“Small scale and new events play an important role in the development of regional communities by encouraging community members and local businesses to get involved with events happening in their area.”
