Hon Philip Gardiner and Hon Max Trenorden Members for the Agriculture Region were delighted to be part of a mining industry initiative compromising representatives of mining companies, mining services and contractors to visit the historic Muresk facility.
The tour was organised by the WA Mining Academy. The Academy proposes to build an immediate pathway to addressing labour shortages in the WA resource industry while providing a sustainable future for Muresk.
It is estimated there will be a shortage of 170,000 skilled workers in the Australian resource industry by 2016.
The members consider the hands-on approach to skilling prospective workers to have a beneficial impact on providing expertise to career paths for Australians.
The initiative will also provide opportunities for Indigenous Australians and provide future pathways for refugees from the Yongah Hill Detention Centre.
The proposal provides the opportunity to integrate the agribusiness study component with hands-on practical, mining industry experience.
Mr Gardiner welcomes this initiative as an opportunity for Government, mining and agriculture industries to benefit from the unique setting of Muresk.
