The State Government recently announced that it will spend $3.4 million to upgrade the Nicholls Curve section of the Brookton Highway, east of Hyden.
Works funded by the State Safer Roads program would begin in early this month and are scheduled to be completed by May 2012.
Local Member for Wagin Terry Waldron welcomed the announcement, saying the works would greatly improve road safety.
“The upgrade will eliminate a series of dangerous curves that have contributed to road crashes in the past and are a constant source of concern for the local community,” said Mr Waldron.
The Shire of Kondinin, with assistance from the Shire of Kulin, will combine resources to deliver the project, while the Wheatbelt South Region division of Main Roads will oversee the project delivery and provide engineering and material testing support.
“This is another example where State and local government agency resources will combine to deliver a solid project to benefit the road users of Western Australia,” said Mr Waldron.
The project will also create local employment opportunities in the surrounding communities.
