Supported by Eventscorp’s RES, through Royalties for Regions funding

Yallingup will host two days and three nights of independent surf films and filmmakers this weekend for the annual Yallingup Surfilm Festival.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the festival would host screenings of inspiring, independent short and feature length surf films from around the world.

“Scenic outdoor venues in Australia’s South-West will offer spectacular settings, as movie-goers enjoy world-class films under the stars,” Dr Hames said.

“Yallingup is arguably one of Australia’s most famous surfing regions, so it’s only fitting that it plays host to such a unique surf film festival.

“Regional events are important as they provide significant economic, social and cultural benefits to the community, as well as increase the region’s profile through media exposure.”

The State Government is supporting the event through Eventscorp’s Regional Events Scheme (RES), which this year received a funding boost from Royalties for Regions.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said that Royalties for Regions had provided a $40million boost over four years to regional events, including $1.8million for the RES.  With funding from Eventscorp, this brings the total support for the RES to $3million.

“It is great to see that with Royalties for Regions funding, the RES is able to support the Yallingup Surfilm Festival, an event which highlights the uniqueness of the South-West region and brings the local community together,” Mr Grylls said.

“The Government recognises that regional events are a key part of our State’s cultural identity and it is great news that people living in the country can experience high quality events in their local area.”
